Laugardalshöll Reykjavík Iceland
26.Oct – 03.Nov 2010
The exhibition will be designed similar to the ones held in Laugadalshöll Centre 2002 and 2004. The area of participation will be increased as extend from Alaska to West Russia.
The exhibition in Laugardalshöll Centre will be aimed in particular at hand crafts and culture of the participating countries and workshops.
Co-operation will be organised with primary and secondary schools in Reykjavik during these days.
Particular attention will be placed on old methods of handcraft which are in danger of disappearing.
Each country will be assigned a particular day for introducing opportunities available for the tourist industry and for the public.
Attention will be paid to fashion shows where traditional costumes will be exhibited along with the latest design in clothing from each country.
There is an option of planning a joint partaking in exhibitions in London, Copenhagen and Berlin where the same concept will be used with preselected participants from this exhibition.
Conference
A work-shop type conference will be held aiming at an agreement on co-operation of hand craft producers in sales and marketing and jointly to form co-operation which would work in this large area.
Each country will be asked to give a presentation on its hand craft heritage, with details on the status of to-day and their expectation for the next ten years.
An attempt will also be made at designing a quality code for hand craft distinguishing between quality hand craft and leisure pieces.
It is to be expected that each country will have at its disposal around 30-100 sqm, except the West Nordic countries that will have a bit larger area at their disposal
In addition to these there will be one contact person from each part taking country. There will also be a request of co-operation with employment development associations throughout the country which is necessary to ensure the involvement of people from the rural areas in f.i. design exhibitions and the also to make sure that idiosyncrasies from each region will be represented
